John Harris

Originally from London, John now lives just outside Exeter. He began painting at 14 and joined the foundation course at Luton College of Art at 16. John went on to study painting and graduate from the Fine Art course at Exeter in 1970.

In 1977, following his first exhibition at the Northcott Theatre in Exeter, the publisher Philip Dunn offered him a commission to produce a group of three paintings which would illustrate the sci-fi classic trilogy, Cities in Flight.

In 1985, John was invited to record a launch of the space shuttle as part of the NASA Art Program, the first British artist to be honoured in this way. The resulting work, 'Aftermath T+60', hangs in the Kennedy Space Centre and is part of the Smithsonian Collection.

Over the last twenty years John has broadened the style and range of his work, but remains firmly embedded in what he calls “Imaginative Realism”.
